Since 1995 we have been researching male infertility and sperm DNA damage. We are amongst the world experts in this area. Now our group has pioneered a second generation male infertility test that can help couples like you.
Professor Sheena Lewis’ research is focused on male infertility and in particular sperm DNA damage testing where her goal has been to identify causes of and treatments for male infertility by developing novel biomarkers.
Sheena is the UK Council representative for the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology ESHRE and past Chair of the Andrology special interest group of ESHRE, UK. Sheena is also Chair of the British Andrology Society, executive committee member of both the British Fertility Society and National Donor Gamete Trust, UK and is a founder member and past Vice Chair of the Irish Fertility Society. She also sits on numerous Andrology Editorial Boards and is a spokesperson for the Science Media Centre, UK helping the public to understand scientific advances in male fertility as soon as they are published.
Marty graduated from Queens University Belfast with a BSc Hons in Biomedical Science in 2008 and in March 2012 was awarded a PhD in the field of Radiation Oncology. He conducted a 2 year post-doc position at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School, Boston, furthering his study in proton radiation therapy in cancer.
Upon returning from his time in the USA, Marty joined SpermComet Ltd. He is involved in the development of further tests to diagnose male infertility.
Lynsey graduated from the University of Ulster, Coleraine in 2010 with a BSc Hons in Human Nutrition and a Diploma in Industrial Studies. On graduating Lynsey commenced employment as a Research Assistant at the Medical Research Council, Human Nutrition Research Unit in Cambridge. She was involved in the development of a novel iron synthetic material for the treatment of iron deficiency anemia in children and facilitated in the day to day running of the laboratory.
Lynsey joined SpermComet Ltd in 2013 working in the laboratory conducting the SpermComet test. She can be relied upon to carry out her work to the highest standard and is an all round team player.
David graduated from the University of Ulster in 2010 with a BSc in Biomedical Science and a Diploma in Industrial Studies, with an MSc from Queen’s University of Belfast in 2011 and a PhD from University of Ulster in 2015. During his research David gained extensive experience in the use of the comet test to assess DNA integrity in a range of cell types.
David joined SpermComet in March 2016 working in the laboratory conducting the SpermComet test and aiding the development of additional methods to assess the role of sperm DNA quality in male health.
Sarah completed a PhD in medical history from Trinity College, Dublin in 2015. She has extensive experience in research, administration and customer service.
Sarah joined to SpermComet test in April 2016. She is responsible for publicity and marketing, communications between the company and its partner clinics and clients, as well as coordinating individual roles within the SpermComet team.
Brian McCaul serves as the Chief Executive Officer of QUBIS Ltd and Director of Innovation at Queen’s University, Belfast. Before joining QUB, Brian was the Director of Exploitation and Commercialisation at the University of Leeds and Director & Company Secretary of The Institute of Knowledge Transfer.
Dr Suresh Tharma is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist. Along with Mr Ashok Songra, Suresh co-founded the 3fivetwo Group, Northern Ireland’s largest private healthcare company in 2003, which incorporates Origin Fertility.
Dr Ashok Songra is a Consultant in Head and Neck Reconstructive Surgery and Facial Plastic Surgery. Along with Dr Suresh Tharma, Ashok co-founded the 3fivetwo Group, Northern Ireland’s largest private healthcare company in 2003.
Jonathan Ramsay’s urological practice is focused on the investigation and treatment of male fertility. Jonathan is working with SpermComet to develop ‘investigate the sperm to treat the men’ pathway. The central issue for most couples is to try to find a cause for male factor infertility, and to explain the ‘unexplained’. Tests for DNA quality are becoming increasingly important to our understanding, and thus to possible treatments, for many men. Jonathan’s clinical practice also focuses on sperm retrieval, reconstructive surgery of the vas and epididymis.

Irfana is a member of The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (MRCOG), UK and has achieved a Masters in Healthcare Leadership from Cornell University, USA. She is a London based Fertility Consultant with over 10 years of clinical experience in the field of assisted reproduction.
